So it finally happened. After 5 months at #1, the MASSIVE "Welcome To Jamrock" has been replaced, diving down to the # 14 spot. In the meantime Mista Wilks sneakily, addictive ICE CUBE riddim has taken control of our state of New Mexico. Last month's #3 by Lefteye aka Dr.Evil (aka Colin "Leftside" Parks, a man who has created GRRREAT riddims (as C-4) and who I believe is also half of the currently hugely successful Leftside & Esco-team) has hit the top-a-top with no less than 5 (!!!) further tunes following into these charts on the very same riddim. The beat isnt really too happening on the NM dancefloors, but it is a fantastic piece a riddim while your thuggin in yo ride or chillin @ home, as we've been bussing it on the airwaves for the past few months now; staight. Quite a variety of tunes on it too; ranging from the x-tra slack ("Wifey Catch Me") to the x-tra conscious Daville track. I may have mentioned it before, but I feel that Daville is one of the most under-rated dancehall singers with HUGE potential. Great lyrics and an ENORMOUS voice, plus he's equally at home on roots as well as dancehall beats. Just sample some of his lyrics this time around : "Father if I pray a little harder. Will my people cease the war & embrace the peace? Father if I... will the murder & the killing & the shooting cease? Father ... will the government recognize the youts dem needs? Father... will you come & rescue me?" Heavy no? A little more? " I know that you see the struggle that my people face. Ever day there is an unsolved murder-case... Guide & secure & protect my family. I'll even say a prayer for my enemy. I pray that my daughters will never stray & my sons wont get caught up in no gun-play." Crucial riddim, crucial tunes, crucial artists - so what yuh waitin fa ?

Not much else on the dancehall-tip this month. Eight 76 Records' DETRIMENTAL riddim finally charts with the title-track from Turbulence but other than that there's just a re-entry of the MY SWING riddim, courtesy of TOK & a next re-entry featuring Shaggy & G-Unit's Olivia. On the roots-front Special Delivery's re-creation of the DIS YAH TIME/OPERATION ERADICATION is ruff'n tuff in New Mexico, with Sizzla climbing up to the #4 spot and further tunes from Lukie D & Alpheus entering the charts on the same riddim at # 7 & #11. The highly recommended Soul Majestic/Anthony B combo is still kicking strong (I really RATE this one people-on the same level as Germany's Seeed or Gentleman) and has me wishing for further vocal-tracks on this VERY same riddim; even if its just some local California artists. Luciano has a rock-solid track at # 15 , stating that REGGAE is the "King Of The Dancehall", Mister Easy is "Falling" nicely on Don Corleon's SEASONS again, while Cobra is mourning the continually escalating violence in Jamaica with
"Too Much Brain A Fry" on the HARD DRUGS. Beres Hammond & Delly Ranks close things out on a similar note with "Siren" on the classic THROW MI CORN.

Until the next time; keep supporting reggae music:
