Yow!

Yow! After last month at the second spot, newcomer Gyptian has laid claim to New Mexico's highest region. Serious lyrics in these here serious times, as "seven times rise and seven times fall but I dont believe in the falling things at all." Trinidad's ganja farmer Marlon Asher climbed into the runner-up spot, while singing-bird Alpheus has also made yet another move, lifting him even higher than ever before on the excellent re-creation of the OPERATION ERADICATION riddim. Young gun QQ has two extra conscious tunes on niyahbinghi beats at #'s 6 & 8 respectively, while Perfect's "Grow Yuh Natty" is still kicking around these parts as well.

Damian Marley just won the 2006 reggae grammy, and while his "Welcome To Jamrock" has exited these charts finally, a new combination featuring the warlord along with the mouseketeer enters at #17. I heard "Welcome To Jamrock" played during several NFL play-off games in the stadiums during breaks (one time @ Chicago's Soldier Field esp. still rings a bell), which is a definite indication as to just how big the youngest Marley artist has become even outside of the reggae industry.

On the dancehall scene, the new BAM BAM on Taxi is still tuff, lead by the magnificent Bounty Killer/Bunny Rugs combination and followed by Chaka Chaks, Future Troubles, Conrad Crystal alongside Sugar Roy as well as Sasha with Justice. Wicked piece-a-riddim STILL!!! In Time Music's hot, new "street-sweeperish" JUMP OFF comes roaring in, courtesy of Kartel's extra-hype "Ni Ni Ni Ni" (re-titled "Realest Thing" by the Greensleeves-licensing crew), as well as Idonia's "Cardinal Point" Ele's "Cho Cho Cho" and Vegas & Lexxus' "Cant Get We Down". Mista Wilks ICE CUBE is still strong, as is Ele's "Willie Bounce" and Leftside & Esco's "Tuck In Yuh Belly".

Bless,
